Holiday Honey Biscuits

3 C.(360 g.) all-purpose flour
2 tsp.(10 ml.) baking powder
1/2 tsp.(2 ml.) salt
1/2 C.(120 g.) butter, softened
1/3 C.(120 g.) honey for dough
1 Tbsp.(21 g.) honey for glaze

1/3 C.(60 g.) light brown sugar 2 large eggs 2 Tbsp.(15 ml.) milk 1/2 tsp.(3 ml.) pure vanilla extract 3 Tbsp.(45 ml.) orange juice

IMG_0462 Holiday Honey BiscuitsSift the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium sized bowl. In another large bowl mix (with an electric beater) the butter, 1/3 C.( 80 ml.) honey, and sugar until they are light and fluffy. To this add the eggs one at a time, still mixing until everything is totally combined.
Then add the liquid ingredients (milk, vanilla, and 2 Tbsp. (30 ml.) of the orange juice) and beat at medium speed until combined. By hand gradually add the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder and salt) until all is mixed. Form the pastry into a lump, wrap with waxed paper and refrigerate for 30 min.
Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C).  Divide the dough into 16 equal-sized pieces. To form into an S or a braid, roll each piece into a rope about 10” to 12” (25-30 cm.) then get creative! Place the biscuits on a greased baking sheet, or one covered with parchment paper and initially bake for 12 minutes. During this time make the glaze, combining the remaining honey and orange juice in a small bowl and stir.  Then after the first 12 min. brush the biscuits with the glaze and bake about 15 min. more or until golden. Cool on a wire rack.
