Mead Matters May 2017

Expanding into liquor stores around Alberta gives us a chance to educate more people about mead. As the oldest alcoholic beverage it is still shrouded in mystery. Is it a beer or a wine? Is it super sweet like Ice Wine? How long does it last? How do you drink it? What can you pair it with? For those who don’t get a chance to visit the meadery in person, how can you get these questions answered? We’re happy to tell you that Art, the Mazer of our award winning meads, will be on site at the Timberlands Central Alberta Co-op Liquor store in Red Deer. Set your calendar for May 25th, from 7-9 pm and call Timberlands (587-802-8573) for tickets at $25. Art will have a presentation on the history and process of making mead there will be plenty of tasting – the best way to learn: with the senses!

Mead Sangria

  • 1 bottle Bodacious Black Currant, Black & Blue or Summer Sassation
  • ½ orange
  • ½ lime
  • ½ lemons
  • 1 can of ginger ale
  • 3-4 cups ice

Directions:
Mix fruit and mead together and let it set for 2-3 hrs. to blend flavours. Add gingerale and ice just before serving.
